"If you have no idea where you are going, how will you get there?"
This is one of my favorite quotes. It really makes you stop and think about where you are, maybe about where you would like to go, who you want to be, or things you would like to accomplish before it's all over. If you aren't constantly reaching for goals then what are you doing?? Setting goals and reaching them is how we as humans get what we want and better ourselves in the process. There is no better feeling then setting a goal, reaching it, and looking back to where you used to be and who you used to be and realizing that you did it! It's a feeling of euphoria!
So what does constantly reaching for goals have to do with exercise? Unless one of your current goals is a fitness goal you probably don't think that having a regular workout routine will benefit you in anyway right? WRONG! When it comes to setting goals and reaching them usually it's something pretty big, maybe a little bit scary, sometimes it's so big it makes you want to crawl under a rock and hide forever. . . . which is fine if you are a worm hiding from a bird, but my guess is your not and you probably want to live a full life with amazing experiences.
Exercise increases the amount of oxygen your brain receives, resulting in improved memory and mental acuity. It also, and this is my favorite part about working out, not only are you getting amazing health benefits and changing your body but you are releasing this wonderful chemical into your brain called endorphins. These chemicals work to boost your mood and to give you a sense of overall well being, ummmm who doesn't want to feel good?? I know I do. Exercise can also help relieve stress and aid in easing depression making it easier to cope with life's challenges. Which if you have ever set a goal then you know that challenges come up and can be frustrating and sometimes leave you feeling like you have failed at reaching your goal. But you haven't you just hit a road block that you have to get past. That's where confidence and perseverance comes in. Exercise also helps to build your confidence and self esteem once again another great reason why having a regular workout routine can help aid you in reaching whatever goal you may have just set or you are currently working toward.
Constantly reaching goals isn't just about setting a goal and creating steps to get there. It's important to have a positive attitude, surrounding yourself with people who are positive, believe in you and who themselves are constantly reaching for goals. Don't let the stresses of everyday life distract you, be realistic, know that you will have road blocks, you are going to have a bad day you are human and that's okay keep moving forward it's in those times that you grow and learn. DO NOT listen to the people who tell you you can't. . . .they are just mad or maybe even jealous that you are bettering yourself and they maybe aren't. Most importantly BE HUMAN, make mistakes, fail and try again. This is going to sound funny but appreciate the mistakes and fails, because in them you have taken one more step to becoming who you are, and there really is no better place to be.
In the famous words of Thomas Edison "I've not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work."
